Surviving Summer with a Baby & Toddler

Summer is finally here and I don't know about you, but this hot and humid weather has got me wanting to be anywhere but outside. My kids, however, are beyond bored of all the hundreds of toys and cartoons they have at their disposal, so outside we must go. Don't get me wrong, there are lots of great things about being outdoors, but summertime calls for a unique arsenal of equipment to get you through the sweaty season of swatting off bugs and chasing your toddler around a splash pad, so today I'm sharing my top 5 tips for not only surviving, but thriving with a baby and toddler this summer!

1.) Bring LOTS of snacks and drinks. It can be costly to pay for snacks at a vendor and sometimes there aren't any readily available. Keep something like juice boxes and fruit snacks on hand when you're in a pinch.

2.) Keep your necessities CLOSE. I don't always like to keep a large diaper bag or tote with me everywhere we go, so I toss a wet bag or diaper clutch underneath my stroller to keep diapers, wipes, spare outfits, and more right within digging around in deep diaper bag pockets necessary. Can't do without the kitchen sink? Try the Mommy Hook! It's perfect for hooking your shopping bags, diaper bags, beach tote, etc. (P.S. You don't have to splurge on the actual "Mommy Hook"....just head to your local hardware store and grab any jumbo aluminum hook. They're usually a fraction of the cost and more sturdy, too!)

3.) Bring a STROLLER. Even if you think you won't need it or your child is too big/needs to walk, going somewhere that includes lots of walking like the zoo or an amusement park can be exhausting on kids of all ages. The Chicco BravoFor2 has been a dream for our summer excursions and you can read lots more about my thoughts on it below!

4.) Don't forget MOM. Mom is already drained just thinking about all the prepping and packing and loading that goes into taking little kids, well, anywhere. Don't forget to pack something for yourself, even if it's just a bottled water and a granola bar for later. You can't pour from an empty cup!

5.) DON'T over do it. Fear of missing out can get the best of us, but don't freak out if you need a break but haven't even seen all of your first Disney park yet. Relax! Better to take a small break and then get down to business than to exhaust yourself trying to just push through it. Heat exhaustion is real and can be very dangerous for adults and kids alike.

Now about that stroller....

One of those key pieces of gear, at least for me as a mom of a baby & a toddler, is the Chicco BravoFor2 double stroller. I was so excited to team up with Chicco and share this stroller with you, and now that I've used it for a little while I can honestly say I am even more impressed! If you're going to survive this season of motherhood, you've got to have this stroller. It's so lightweight and compact, you can barely tell it's a double! But the little sit and stand area is positioned just right that it makes it possible for me to maneuver through those narrow playground aisles and not have to worry about losing my daughter from the sidelines. We can easily stroll right up to whatever slide she's about to conquer and cheer her on from the landing!

We've also taken our BravoFor2 to the St Louis Zoo a few times and I am always impressed with how easily I can navigate through bumpy terrain and winding, crowded pathways, all while pushing some 50+ lbs of squishy baby cuteness. That's not including the insane amount of storage this thing has. The bottom basket is accessible from the front and back making it a breeze to reach another juice box or pacifier in a pinch. I always strap on my trusty Mommy Hook for bags and totes to keep the weight off of me and everything still readily available.

The Chicco BravoFor2 is not just for toddlers, though! Our last zoo excursion included my 7 year old sister and she folded up the second seat to stand and take a break from walking for a while. The padded back rest and easy-to-reach handles made her feel comfortable standing up while still moving.

When you want to utilize the second seat, simply fold the seat down and strap your child in! It's so quick, we were easily able to let everyone take turns in the stroller!

Keeping track of two kids is hard enough on it's own, but in a crowd you really have to go hands-free. I love that my phone fits perfectly into this little zip pouch with plenty of room to spare for keys, cards, sunglasses, etc. all within reach for quick checks but still kept safe when I need to focus on what's going on around me.

When it's time to go, this double folds up with ONE hand and stays standing upright until I can hoist it into my car. It's a little hefty when folded up, but fits nicely in the back of my small Mazda Tribute and unfolds again in a pinch! I can't believe how much this stroller feels like a single but still seats both my babies like a breeze. It's quickly becoming my favorite baby much so that I recently sold my other single stroller because I know I'll only use my BravoFor2, even if I only happen to have one child with me.

So what tips do you have for beating the heat and breaking out of the house with your littles? Share your favorite family activity that would be the perfect destination for your next trip in a Chicco BravoFor2 double stroller!

Bright and Budget Friendly: Spring and Summer Accessories Under $40!

Happy Friday, friends! It's been a hot minute since I posted on a Friday, but I need to get back into it!

Today I'm sharing some of my favorite accessories for spring and summer. I'm loving everything bold and bright this year, so be prepared for a lot of neon! Everything here is under $40, except for one splurge that's worth every penny and you'll see why ;)

How cute is that tassel pom tote, and a pom pom hat to match? Swoon! I just ordered this precious boater as well for an upcoming shoot. The striped tassel clutch and faux Jack Rogers sandals have been on massive repeat in my closet already! And what better accessory than a pretty little mani? Essie in Mod Square is a fun take on a classic bubblegum pink that's perfect for baring your tootsies in a new wedge!

Now for the splurge guessed it, the Kendra Scott Rayne. I waited TWO years to finally bite the bullet on this bad boy and I'm kicking myself for waiting so long! I have two, a hot pink and a white pearl, and I wear them literally almost every day. I try to limit myself, but if I'm spending $80 on a necklace (make that two of them!) then I am damn well getting my money's worth out of them! They are seriously worth every stinking penny, have held up against a toddler and baby's constant pulling/chewing/yanking, and honestly go with just about anything. If you're still unsure, here's a small sampling of some outfits I've worn my hot pink Rayne with. I wear the white one more often and you can see plenty of that over on my Instagram! @likehoneyblog

Did you ever think something so bold could be so versatile? Obsessed!

Tell me: What are your go-to summer staple accessories? Do you have a favorite item that's totally worth splurging on? What is it?!

Rompin' in Lilly

Who could forget the infamous Lilly Pulitzer for Target fiasco? I had my eye on a few pieces in that gorgeous (and sooo affordable!) collection but only ended up with one piece thanks to my friend, Tif @ Bright on a Budget! She has amazing Lilly shopping tips, btw!

I knew that if I waited a while, many of the pieces would be on eBay and if I waited a long while, they'd even be in my price range there, too! I was right! 2 years later I score this stunning jumpsuit for just $20! Seriously! It has the cutest, vibrant palm print and I love the wide legs, even on my short frame. The straps are adjustable too which is nice. It's the perfect spring to summer transition outfit!

It was totally worth the wait and I love it to pieces. Even better? Lucy has the same one in her size (which I scored for only $5 on eBay!!). I'm a huge supporter of shopping resale and waiting and watching for deals when it's something you love but can't afford or get your hands on right away. It totally pays off, y'all!

Of course I had to pair this with my hot pink Kendra Scott Rayne and Jack Rogers look-alike's from Target. Oh, and can we talk about this darling tassel clutch?! I snagged it the second I saw it on the shelf and never looked back! Am I the only one who lives for hot pinks and bright hues this time of year? I am so ready for summer!

Have you ever scored a wishlist item after waiting for so long? What was it?!

5 Tips for Glowing Summer Skin

When I think of my summer makeup routine, it's pretty minimal. I wear a lot less product on my face when the temps are high but I still want to achieve that desirable "summer glow" and that all starts with a good skincare routine! Today, I'm teaming up with Vanity Planet to bring you my Top 5 Tips to Transform Your Summer Skin. The best part? They're all super affordable and easy to do, many with products you probably already have!

Stay Hydrated! | Talk about budget friendly! Water is virtually free and readily available and it can do amazing things for your skin and overall health! To calculate what your daily water intake should be, multiply your weight by 2/3 (or 67%). This will give you the correct amount of ounces, but be sure to increase to make up for any sweat-inducing activities or workouts. A cute water bottle always helps me stay on track!

Use a Face Mask | A good face mask is something you should always have in your routine. To brighten and revitalize, opt for masks that feature ingredients like rose and green tea.

Exfoliate | Build up of dead skin cells makes for a dull complexion. Exfoliation is key to ridding your skin of any leftover particles and keeping your pores clear and free of build up! This spinning facial cleansing brush from Vanity Planet is my new skincare go-to thanks to its gentle exfoliating brush heads that work for face and body! There are plenty of facial scrubs out there that do the job, but this Spin for Perfect Skin brush goes the extra mile by promoting cellular rejuvenation as well!

Choose the Right Foundation | Using a matte foundation is counter intuitive to a dewy summer glow. Look for a formula that boasts a "luminous", "radiant", or "dewy" finish during the spring and summer months. A BB or CC cream or tinted moisturizer would also be a great and lightweight option for the warmer temps!

Fake It Til You Make It | Taking care of your skin is important, but it can take time to see true results. If you're in need of a dewy glow in a pinch, a good highlighter is your new BFF.

The first step to getting that luminous look is healthy skin. That's why I'm so excited to share that Vanity Planet is offering 70% OFF their Spin for Perfect Skin brush! That's a HUGE savings and such a great start to your perfect summer skincare routine! Just use code SPINSPRING70 at checkout HERE. Vanity Planet also has a full range of makeup, skincare, bath & body, and hair care products that all drive the same message: taking care of yourself is OK! That's something I can totally get behind.

I loved pairing this with simple jewelry and a straw hat. I felt like those were such effortless accessories...and that straw hat is only $5 in the Bullseye's Playground at Target!
