5 Secrets to Make Vacation Packing a Breeze

We are less than a week away from hitting the road and I'm getting all my ducks in a row to make things easier the day we leave! I want to leave on time, so the preparation is definitely half the battle! We take a lot of trips to Lexington, so I like to think I've masted the art of vacation packing. Here are some of the tips and tricks I've found most helpful in getting myself (and two kids) packed and ready to go!

Make a List: I'm super forgetful, so I make lists for every person in the family and cross things off as they go in the suitcase. This helps me visualize everything we need and keeps me from forgetting what got packed and what didn't.

Make a Morning Of List: In addition to my general packing list, I like to make a list for the morning of. It usually contains items like "phone charger", "makeup bag", and "hair dryer", all things I will need to use the morning we leave, but don't want to forget to pack with us!

Pack What You Can the Night Before: I know I'll need to use my makeup before we head out the door, so I always put it in my travel makeup bag the night before, use that in the morning, and then toss the bag in my suitcase and go! It saves me a little time trying to pack my makeup bag in the morning when I'll inevitably be running late already. I also like to pack the suitcase and any electronics I'll be taking the night before and just lay out the clothes I plan to wear on the road.

Scale Down: As much as I'd love to have my entire wardrobe with me on the go, that's obviously not feasible, so I try to work my outfits around one or two pairs of shoes. For this trip I'm bringing my favorite wedges, and while I could probably get away with just those, I'll also add a pair of sandals in case we do more walking than my wedges can handle.

Wash, Dry, Repeat: If you really want to pack light, choose at least one outfit to repeat. I like to find a comfy outfit to wear on the road and since it's a round trip affair, I wear it again on the way home! It saves me a little room in my suitcase, which is great considering all the shopping I'll probably be doing! ;)

*This post contains affiliate links*

Welcome to Mom Style Monday, a monthly link party where my fellow stylish mamas share our favorite outfits and trends! There's a new theme every month, so be sure to join in next month with your own Mom Style! This month we're sharing our favorite Red, White, & Blue outfits to celebrate the Fourth!

High-waisted Jeans || Gingham Crop Top (similar) || Red Heels (very similar) || Sunglasses (similar)

I am a retro lover at heart, so of course I had to add a little vintage Americana to one of my favorite holidays! These high-waisted jeans are a closet staple that will go with just about anything, from crop tops to sweaters! I love red and white gingham in the summer, so of course I had to buy this tie front beauty the second I saw it. Unfortunately it's sold out, but I've linked a few similar tops below!

Oh, and is there any better accessory than freedom? It's not Fourth of July without a little bit of stars and stripes! A bold red heel (these were my wedding shoes!) and a classic crimson lip finish it off and make this pin-up worthy look perfect for your next fireworks display or family BBQ!

Now it's time to link up! Share your favorite Fourth of July-ready look (or any recent outfit post!) and be sure to comment on at least one other blog post in the party. Then join us next month (the last Monday of every month) for a Beach Ready theme!

What's In My Travel Beauty Bag?

Our vacation is coming up quick, so of course, I'm already planning out what I'm going to be bringing with me! I thought I'd start with my makeup and beauty products, since I just ordered a big travel size haul from Ulta in preparation for our trip!

Here's what I'm bringing:

Everyone knows a southern summer is a humid summer, and since we're heading to the beach, I know humidity and frizz are going to be a constant battle. I've been trying out a few cult favorites and I'm already in love with this Living Proof dry texture spray that everyone raves about (which I'm hoping to find a dupe for soon)! Products can only get you so far though, so I'll be bringing my trusty boater hat along to save me from any crazy hair days.

I know hotels always provide mini bath products, but there's just something so much better about having your own tried and true favorites on hand when traveling. These Formula 10.0.6 face masks are a favorite right now and their mini sizes are perfect for travel. I've also been using the Mario Badescu Rose Water Spray nonstop lately, even on non-makeup days, and it makes my skin feel so refreshed.

I love makeup but traveling with it can be a struggle. As much as I want to bring everything with me, I just don't have the luggage space. I'm trying to bring products that go with everything like neutral shadows and nude lipsticks, but I had to throw in at least one hot pink lippie. I may narrow my foundations down to just one as well, but haven't decided between the two yet.

It can be very overwhelming to pack all of your usual beauty products with you on the go, so here are some tips to make things a little easier:

Think Small: I prefer to purchase travel and trial size versions of my favorite products (or new ones to test out!) so that I can easily dispose of empty bottles and not have so much to pack home with me. A less convenient option is to fill reusable travel bottles with the current products in your routine. Just remember to check TSA guidelines if you're traveling by air.

Double Up: I always choose to bring one (maybe two) eyeshadow palette that will cover a multitude of looks. In the summer I don't wear as much shadow in the first place which makes this easier, but I do still wear face makeup often, so I try to pack things like this e.l.f. Cosmetics Aqua Beauty Blush and Bronzer Duo. Having two products in one package definitely helps save space in my makeup bag.

Shop Your Stash: This is something I always preach in many situations! There's no point buying new what you already own, so be sure to dig through your makeup drawers before you splurge on a new mascara. You might already have several samples that would be perfect for travel plus you'll have the chance to clear out your junk drawer. A win-win!

Check the Forecast: We're heading to the beach in a couple weeks and I know that salty air is humid air. Be sure to pack products that fight frizz and humidity, or forget the spray and just pack your favorite boater hat instead! You'll also want to consider what activities you have planned and what the temperature will be when you pack your outfits.

Don't Stress About It!: I'm such a planner, that I find myself planning every minute of our trip. Fine in theory, but it can lead to some big disappointments when the weather changes, flights are delayed, etc. Try to remain as flexible as possible. Not only will you be able to enjoy some spontaneous adventures with your family, but you'll also feel much more relaxed (I promise)!

Freshly Squeezed: Lemon Print Picks Under $100

*This post contains affiliate links*

When life gives you lemons.....you wear them! Like everyone else, I'm loving the lemon print trend this season, so I rounded up a few of my favorites, all under $100! I absolutely love that lemon graphic tee and those fun, fruity earrings! They're both totally affordable at less than $20, too. I'm thinking that silk lemon print scarf would be adorable tied to the handle of a straw bag or as a headband for a messy bun kind of day.

Have you hopped on the lemon print bandwagon yet? Which of these pieces is your favorite?

Fave Five Friday | We're Back!

Oh, hey Friday!

It's been a hot minute since we shared a Fave Five Friday post and it's high time we jumped back into it! Life gets crazy sometimes and we just have to stop and reevaluate. And that's okay!

Here's what we were up to this week!

5.) The temps have been soaring here (over 90 degrees consistently!) so I'm finally breaking out my summer wardrobe in full force! I shared this cute black romper (perfect for a swim cover up!) in my How to Wear a Romper to Work post!

4.) Also on the blog this week, a Fun and Bright Backless Dress + My Favorite Backless Bra, because nobody wants an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction!

3.) We've been enjoying a lot of outdoor play this week which includes lots of "flower" picking!

2.) Preston and I just booked our vacation and I seriously couldn't be more excited! We're going to Charleston, SC--KID FREE! My mom is being an angel and keeping my kids for us for a few days so we can enjoy some much needed one on one time. Preston's been pretty busy for the last year between two jobs and school, so I'm looking forward to making up for lost time.

1.) You can't wear the same old stuff on vacation, right? ;) I had to do a little vacay outfit shopping and snagged these adorable wedges from Macy's + a super cute dress from Charlotte Russe! Now I just need to find the perfect bag.

We're spending this weekend celebrating! First a birthday party for one of Lucy's friends and then Father's Day!

Hot Pink Open Back Dress + My Favorite Backless Bra

*This post is sponsored by UK Lingerie and contains affiliate links. All opinions are my own.*

Summer isn't quite here officially, but the temps sure are! It's been a steady 90 degrees all week which has had me reaching for flowy, open back dresses like this pretty pink number. I used to be so nervous to wear anything backless because, well, you can't always go braless!

I got the perfect stick on backless bra from UK Lingerie the other day and it is everything I love in a regular bra, without the back! I was so worried it would slip or not hold the girls up but it did all that and stayed super secure! I have worn it since and it is still as sticky as the first wear! It was important to me to find a backless bra that was also going to give me some lift, which is why I loved the Braza Strapless Angel. The cups are just like your average underwire, except with clear, adhesive sides that stick to your ribs and don't budge! Best part? When you do peel them off at the end of the day, it doesn't hurt! I have sensitive skin and noticed no issues with this adhesive.

UK Lingerie also sent me a pack of their Braza Stick On Bras (I'm wearing one in my How to Wear a Romper to Work post). These I was less happy with as they were more like sticking on a massive bandaid over your entire breast and did little for support. I think they're great for concealing things under flowier tops and dresses but definitely not my first choice for a form fitted style.

If you're looking for a solution to your backless and cut out halter type dresses this summer, I highly recommend investing in the Braza Strapless Angel bra from UK Lingerie (plus they have tons of super cute intimates, sleepwear, and swimwear)! I love being able to wear my open back styles with support and without worry! Have you ever tried a sticky bra? Would you rock for an open back style?

Work or Play(suit) | How to Wear a Romper to Work

*I received some items free in exchange for this post. All opinions are my own. Post contains affiliate links.*

Rompers are such a fun and versatile piece of clothing! I love wearing them as swim covers, for everyday wear, and even to bed! Both of these are from Tobi and are super affordable! They are primarily casual, but today, I'm showing you how to dress them up a little, whether it's for work or a meeting or just because. It's super easy and can make for a fun summer office outfit!

For Work: Pair a simple black romper with a white blazer and a bright shoe for a fun office-appropriate look! The white blazer is perfect for summer and I love a pop of color with B&W so these bold coral pumps were the perfect addition.

For Play: Shed the blazer and slip on a sandal for a more casual look. A floppy straw hat makes this outfit perfect for the park or the beach!

For Work: A black moto jacket gives this ruffle trimmed romper an edgy feel. Pair it with heels for extra oomph or flats for a more understated look.

For Play: Ditch the jacket and grab your favorite leopard flats for a flirty, feminine look! A matching clutch or crossbody bag makes this more day appropriate, while still adding printed flair to a solid romper.

I love finding new ways to wear favorite pieces in my closet. These rompers from Tobi are so fun and easy to mix and match outfits for completely different looks. The blush ruffle romper is so soft and has the prettiest open back! The black faux-wrap is a super versatile option for those of you looking to really get the most bang for your buck. Office wear can be so much more than pantsuits these days, but obviously, make sure your romper is at least fingertip length and check your office dress code to be sure you're safe to wear shorts. Add a pair of tights or a layered maxi to make a too-short suit toe the line.
