When It's Time to Slow Down

"If satan can't make you bad, he will make you busy."

It took a minute for those words to really sink in for me. Busy? Everyone is busy. But should we be?

My priorities have shifted in the last year of blogging and I've come to realize they are misaligned. When did making an extra dollar become more important than spending 5 minutes with my kids? I have found myself absent-mindedly nodding at them from behind my phone when they say "mommy look!", just trying to show me their latest trick. I get frustrated when I have to leave a half-written blog post for the 12th time to get someone another glass of milk. I find myself longing for a time when they'll be bigger so I can "just get something done" instead of embracing the season of life that we're in and just enjoying the fleeting moments.

There are nights when I am up until 1:00 am scrambling to finish a blog post when all I really want to do is snuggle up to my husband and talk to him about our day. Preston works late most nights, so our evenings usually consist of a hasty dinner and an episode of something on Netflix while I catch up on social media before we shuffle off to bed without much ceremony.

When was the last time I opened my Bible outside of church? When did I last check in with God? On the rare occasion that I actually have a few free minutes, I find myself "too busy" to listen to the Lord's Word. Then I realize, that's exactly what that those words meant...

When I started this blog, it was a hobby. I was pregnant and about to quit my day job to become a full-time stay at home parent. But over the past year, this blog has become more of a job in and of itself, and while I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunities I've had, I feel God calling me to take a step back and reevaluate the direction this little blog is headed. I've let myself become so absorbed in the networking and promoting side of blogging, that I have put the things that are most important in life on the back burner more often than not.

Stressful is not at all what I wanted this blog to become for me. Busy is not the kind of mom I want to be. So I am going to take a little blogging break. I need to step back, breathe, and hopefully dive back into this in the coming months with a whole new outlook. I want to use Like Honey as a platform to inspire others, create (more!) genuine friendships, and share my passions with the world. Page views and followers should not get in the way of me enjoying my family, my friends, or my craft and I'm excited to see what God has planned for me during this little reprieve.

Thank you all for supporting Like Honey all this time! I can't wait to be back on my little corner of the web with lots of new content to share with y'all!

Emerald Embroidery and Suede (Oh My!)

*This post contains affiliate links*

When you spy the prettiest emerald peplum on clearance for only $6, you buy it. You just do. If the color wasn't enough to sell me on this one, then the embroidery details definitely did it. I love the blue-grey and gold tones together with the rich evergreen. It's such a fun top that can easily be dressed up or down. I think it would be gorgeous with gold glitter heels during the holidays!

Emerald is usually a Christmas color for me. I love combining it with reds and golds and creams during the winter, but something about this color paired with a warm cognac is absolutely dreamy. It just makes me feel so autumnal (every basic girl's goal, right?). This suede moto jacket, by the way? SWOON. I saw it in the store a while back and didn't get it...regretted it immediately and when I returned there was ONE left, in MY size. Coincidence? I think not.

I have so many outfits lined up for this moto jacket this fall! It's going to be a closet staple for sure. I think I might need a few more peplums in my repertoire, too. What do you think?

Classing Up Camo

*I received free product in exchange for my honest review. Some links may also be affiliate. All opinions are my own.*

I grew up in a tiny little town in rural Missouri. Festivals consisted of local produce and prize hogs and fall was more about early mornings in the deer stand than waiting in the drive-thru for your first Starbs of the day. Suffice it to say, CAMO is not usually my thing. However, I've seen a lot of cute looks with camo patterned tees circling the blogosphere in the past few months that have really caught my eye, so when I saw this camo t-shirt dress from Pink Blush I just had to give it a try!

Y'all, I'm SO glad I did.

First of all, Pink Blush is the queen of dresses with pockets. Seriously, they just get me. But let's also talk about the stretchy + soft material (swoon). I will never turn down a trendy dress that feels comfortable enough to sleep in!

I initially wanted to pair this with shades of brown, but decided to step outside my comfort zone a little and try black--which gave me a great excuse to rock these OTK boots I've been storing since I scored them on super clearance last spring! I feel like the moto jacket really gives this outfit a needed edge and ties in the black over-the-knee boots to balance it all out and keep the camo from feeling too overwhelming!

The Best Nude Lipsticks for Fall

*This post contains affiliate links.*

Fall is fast approaching and I'm already breaking out the warm brown and berry nude hues wherever I can! I love the way a bronze smokey eye pairs with a nude lip and this fall, I have a few neutral favorites to share with y'all:

L'Oreal definitely steals the show--it's the very best drugstore lipstick formula in my opinion! Their new Colour Riche Matte line is what fall makeup dreams are made of. Matte-sterpiece is a pretty peachy-nude while He Thinks He's Matte-cho is more of a tan/brown nude, perfect with a fiery smokey eye this fall! I recently made my first Colourpop purchase and fell in love with the liquid lipstick shade in Midi. It's a great year-round neutral, but looks great with fall and winter eye looks. One layer is plenty, though--any more and you'll be flaking all day!
