3 Reasons to Ditch Diamonds - Like Honey

3 Reasons to Ditch Diamonds

Anyone who knows me knows two things: I'm a nut for just about anything vintage or antique, and I'm madly in love with my best friend! I love being married and with our 5 year anniversary coming up this weekend, I thought I'd share a few reasons why I'm loving my new Tiger Gems wedding ring--besides the fact that it's gorgeous!

Preston and I are celebrating 5 years this weekend, so when Tiger Gems offered to send me one of their beautiful rings to review, I thought, "What better timing?"! I've wanted to upgrade my ring for awhile, to something with a little more of that vintage flair that I love, but just couldn't justify the exorbitant cost of a large or intricate diamond ring when we are working on budgeting and saving our money as it is! Tiger Gems has a wide selection of vintage inspired engagement rings and bands, all handmade with love and all totally affordable (think less than $500)! I showed Preston a few rings I loved and he chose the 2.25 Carat Art Deco Halo Ring in Rose Gold. I am in LOVE. The rose gold plating looks stunning and the overall quality is just as good as my "real" wedding ring, despite how dainty and delicate it is. I especially love that Preston chose the art deco design, knowing that I would love the vintage cut. For a more in depth review, check out the video at the end of this post!

Now, you might be wondering why my new "upgraded" ring is technically a downgrade from a real diamond....well, it's not! Here are 3 good reasons why I'm ditching diamonds from now on:

ONE

Obviously the biggest and foremost reason for many of us is cost. The cost of diamonds is absolutely ridiculous, and while splurging on a ring with this much significance is certainly understandable, think of all of the many more important things the majority of that money could be spent on! Tiger Gems rings look nothing short of real and for a fraction of the cost! Your honeymoon, your first home, or even your future retirement are worth more in memories than any rock could ever be. Then consider the fact that most couples "upgrade" their ring after 5 or 10 years and beyond! The cost in jewelry alone during the lifetime of most marriages is probably the equivalent of many family vacations and personally, I'd rather look back on the memories I made with my husband and kids than the debt I accrued trying to "Keep Up With The Joneses" over a material object.

TWO

Honestly, fakes are prettier! Most of the rings I truly love are lab created or synthetic gemstones, just like this beautiful 2.25 carat beauty from Tiger Gems. Diamond mining has become a very unethical practice. I love that by opting for a synthetic gemstone, I can get a beautiful, affordable ring that I love without supporting unethical diamond mining. Plus, when I inevitably do want to change styles or "upgrade" down the road, there will be many gorgeous options available for me to build a collection and swap in and out!

THREE

Marriage is MORE. Really, if you're basing any aspect of your marriage on the price or size of your ring, you're probably not getting married for the right reasons. I absolutely love my husband and would stand by him with or without a ring on my finger because our marriage is a vow we made to each other in the presence of God. No piece of jewelry could ever dispute that or "make" us more married. There are two reasons I wear a ring at all: one, to mark me as "taken", obviously. I am happily married and a big, beautiful ring lets me shout it from the rooftops! Reason two: my ring is a daily reminder of the vow I made to my husband on our wedding day. When I look at it, I see a symbol of our love and remember all the beautiful moments that led to where we are today. I don't need a bigger or more expensive ring to know my husband loves me with all of his heart and neither should you!

Honestly, my list could go on and on, but I'll stop here for now ;) I am in love with my new Tiger Gems sterling silver engagement ring and I can't wait to add a band or two to my collection in the future.

Thank you to Tiger Gems for sponsoring this post! All opinions are my own.

  1. In my previous relationship I MADE my ex buy a cubic zirconia because I knew he couldn’t exactly afford a real diamond and I could have cared less about if it was real. I’m sure he was happy with that decision in hindsight after I called off the engagement haha. I personally love the idea of ditching diamonds and I would definitely take one of these gorgeous rings. The symbol of the ring is definitely worth way more than any diamond out there.

  2. I love this idea!! My only request to my husband when he asked what I wanted in a ring was that it was a non-conflict diamond or fake. So much better to spend the money on memories than things.
