When you're in the throes of parenthood or both busy with a demanding career, it can be hard to find time to really "date" your spouse. When you get disconnected, your marriage can backslide and you'll find yourself living more or less as roommates--not a good thing! But with a little intention and a fresh morning routine, we're finding new ways to nurture our relationship every day:
ENJOY THE LITTLE THINGS TOGETHER
Sometimes you just have to make time together. For us, that often includes making our weekly Target run together and picking out a new favorite coffee! Right now, we're loving the "coffee that cares": Laughing Man® Coffee! Their story is so inspiring and I can always get behind a brand with heart. Every time you enjoy a cup of Laughing Man® Coffee, you make a positive impact, because a portion of the proceeds from your purchase goes right back into the communities that grow the coffee beans.
I'm just starting to get into coffee myself, so I'm partial to the Huila K-Cup® pods for their ease and convenience. I don't usually opt for convenience items since they tend to come with more packaging, but Laughing Man® Coffee makes all of their pods recyclable, so I don't feel bad! The Colombia Huila variety is a dark roast coffee of uncommon complexity. Its produced from beans of great character, resulting in an intense, deep-roasted flavor with a black cherry sweetness, and a dark chocolate finish. It's always fun to find something new that you and your spouse can both enjoy together. It's those little connections that bring us closer together, even in the mundane moments!

GO TO BED / WAKE UP AT THE SAME TIME
One of the easiest ways to stay connected is to lay down and get up at the same time as your spouse. Not only does this keep you doing more of those everyday tasks together, it can be a great way to find that one on one time when your schedules don't line up throughout the middle of the day. We've recently begun starting our day enjoying a cup of Laughing Man® Coffee together before the kids wake up and demand our attention. It really makes for a great chance to connect before we go about our day, discuss our plans, and just enjoy each other's company uninterrupted. It's something I look forward to every morning now!
KEEP UP WITH EACH OTHERS INTERESTS
Some of Preston's interests include guitars and coffee, both things I am not too versed in. But, by joining him for concerts or trying out a new blend, I can show him I am interested in what he's interested in and it helps us stay connected in the things each other likes.
So next time you're dreading your weekly grocery run, make it a date night! Try a new flavor of Laughing Man® Coffee and find your spouses favorite blend. Read the newspaper together and talk about your day ahead. You'll be feeling close and connected (and caffeinated!) in no time! All four varieties of premium Laughing Man® Coffee are Fair Trade Certified™ and are available at Target and on Target.com.
Such a good post! It really is the simple things that help build our relationships and marriages. Taking 10 or minutes for each other daily can be more helpful than a longer, expensive vacation!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you enjoyed the post! I totally agree, we don't have frequent babysitters available or the money to take vacations often, so building up those little moments is so necessary!
DeleteSuch great advice! And I completely agree that it is so important about being intentional in regards to staying connected during this busy stage of life!

Isn't that cool?! I love all of their commitment to Fair Trade and recycling!
DeleteI wish my husband liked coffee as much as I do! I'm going to have to try that brand. I've never heard of it. It sounds really good and I like that they give back to the communities! Gorgeous photos btw.
ReplyDeleteI don't like coffee nearly as much as my husband, so don't worry! It's truly the thought and time invested that counts!
DeleteI love the concept of this coffee, and that it gives back to the local communities where it is grown! What a great idea! And that it tastes good too...well that is the best!
ReplyDeleteYes! Love supporting brands with heart!
DeleteI love this! 1) because I'm a total coffee snob and 2) because I totally agree about your marriage turning into routine - it can happy all too easily. My husband and I have quality "coffee time on the couch" on weekend mornings and it is something I always look forward to!
ReplyDeleteYes girl! My husband is the coffee snob around here and he approves!
