Teaching Toddlers the Joy of Giving This Holiday Season

There are two big things I remember from my childhood Christmases: baking up a storm with my mom and grandma and getting to go "shopping" for Christmas gifts for my family. I still remember the absolute joy I had searching for that perfect gift and then watching my parents open whatever random object I thought they'd really love! Now that I have two kids of my own, I want them to experience that wholesome joy of giving this holiday season by spreading a little cheer and delivering a festive card and cookies to our friends and neighbors!

Of course, you can't have a holiday without a little baking! Lucy chose snickerdoodles, so a trip to Walmart was in the books! Walmart is always my one-stop shop because I can get all my holiday necessities in a single shopping trip. While we were picking up all the ingredients for our cookies, I stopped in the card aisle for a few of the new Hallmark Signature Cards and Paper Wonder Cards! These make great finishing touches to our cookie exchange and are so much more than a piece of paper. The kids picked a card that included little finger puppets for their friends and I could already see a glimmer of that same joy I had as a child picking out that perfect gift. We also grabbed a stunning pop-up card that made me immediately think of my grandma--she always displayed her holiday cards on her mantel, but she recently moved homes, so I know this beautiful card will look good with or without a mantel! If you've got a gift exchange or get together ahead of you this holiday season, it might be worth stocking up on a few Hallmark Cards of your own, especially with the awesome deals going on right now, only at Walmart! Look for the in-aisle coupon, buy 2 Hallmark Cards get 1 free. Plus grab the Ibotta offer of $1 off a card purchase of $2.97 or more for extra savings! You can also get a plush Holiday Bear for only $3.97 with the purchase of 3 Hallmark Cards priced $1.97 or more (all offers available through 12/25/18 or while supplies last)!

Once we were home with all of our holiday goodies, we all whipped up a batch of snickerdoodles together, listening to our favorite Christmas tunes and licking every bowl clean! I love how much my babies enjoy being in the kitchen with me and I hope, like me, they can look back at their childhood and remember spending holidays in the kitchen with their mom. Even more exciting for them than the cookies, was signing their names and sealing the special card they picked out just for their friends! They couldn't wait to deliver the fun finger puppet card they chose and I love that the special Hallmark Signature designs made the card more intentional.

Hallmark Cards are a fantastic way to give a meaningful and memorable note and the fact that their Paper Wonder and Signature collections are so distinctive and magical makes the giving process so much more exciting for the kids. I hope that by continuing these traditions with my children and by making giving a joyful experience, I not only build cherished, heartwarming memories together, but also build character and lasting values in my kids! What's one way you're nurturing the joy of giving in your children this holiday season?

Winter Nail Colors You'll Love

There's little I like more than a deep, burgundy nail this time of year...except maybe a greige. Or a nude blush. Or a crisp, holiday red. Okay, I can't really pick a favorite, but here are a few of my favorite wintertime nail polish picks so you can choose a favorite of your own!

Click any image in the graphic below to shop it directly or click the name of your favorite shade in the links provided beneath:

I have to say, those greyish colors are really speaking to me this season! I have a few in my collection already, but there might be a couple new shades in my stocking this Christmas....

What's your favorite polish color during the winter? Do you have a formula you swear by? I've never really been partial to any specific formula but maybe I'm just missing out! Share your favorites in the comments!

The Best Black Friday Deals of 2018

It's no secret that Black Friday is one of the most highly anticipated shopping days of the year, but did you realize that a lot of the "deals" out there aren't really that much better (if at all) than everyday sale pricing? Big box stores love to take advantage of the Black Friday hype and draw you in with the promise of major discounts and freebies, but in my opinion, only a few of these deals are worth the long lines and frantic holiday hustle. While just about every store out there has some Black Friday deal or another going on this week, I've rounded up a handful of my favorite stores and the deals I'm hoping to score there this year (or items I recommend!) so that you can easily shop from the comfort of your home--or have an easy to access list while you brave the late night shopping madness!

Just click any product in the images below to shop directly or browse the sliders beneath to see more must have items!

Like most people, Walmart is my number one Black Friday stop. I always find a little something there whether I go early or the day after and I never leave disappointed. We've scored countless movies for under $10, my favorite vacuum ever (but WAIT, don't get it at Walmart this year! I'll explain below!), and of course, a TV, but this year I'm finding more deals for the kids than anyone! Walmart is having some great discounts on toys and games, including under $100 ride-on vehicles. Scroll through the slider above to see all of my choices and similar options.

1.) My First Trampoline, $25 | You wouldn't believe the regular price of these tiny trampolines! They can cost almost as much as a large one, so this $25 find is a steal if you're in the market for a bigger Christmas gift! I love that it has a support bar.

2.) The Pioneer Woman cookbooks, $10 | Consider my Christmas list done and dusted! I love Ree and all of her kitchen items, but actually don't own any of her cookbooks yet! Looks like I'll be able to stock up on all of them at this price!

3.) Better Homes & Gardens Mix & Measure Set, $9.96 | I bought this set in a similar Black Friday deal a few years ago and still love my mixing bowls! My set didn't come with the measuring cups, so I can't speak to their quality, but I can sure say these mixing bowls have stood up to countless beatings (literally) and the addition of lids makes it totally worth every bit of $10! Don't be fooled by the box's small size; these bowls nest super neatly so they don't take up much space at all! Grab one for you and your mother-in-law, your mom, your grandma....

4.) JLab Audio JBuds Wireless Earbuds, $30 | They're not AirPods, but the price certainly makes these worth a try to me! These would make a great stocking stuffer or gift for the guy on your list!

5.) Farberware Nonstick Copper Waffle Maker, $9.96 | My husband loves waffles and we see this deal every Black Friday and for some reason just never buy one! Will this be the year we actually get a waffle maker? Stay tuned.

6.) The Pioneer Woman Crockpot, $15 | Nevermind that you already have a crockpot, get this beauty in your cart ASAP! It's under $20 and you can never have too many slow cookers. Promise.

7.) Sorry, $5 | We recently got the kids hooked on Candyland, so we've got a few board games like Sorry and Trouble on our Christmas list this year! It takes a lot of patience to play these with preschoolers, but we've already had a few lessons in humility and sportsmanship, so it's worth it for the character building, right?

8.) LG Soundbar with Wireless Subwoofer, $99 | Still one of my best Christmas gifts to date (I think)! I surprised Preston with a soundbar a couple of years ago and we both use it all the time! It's a great way to get higher quality sound out of your TV without the bulk of a large speaker system. We even use ours to Bluetooth Spotify from our phones while we're cleaning, cooking, etc. If you're looking for a quality gift on a budget, this is a great option. There are a few other models at slightly higher prices and different sizes, too, so do your research on what soundbar might be best for your needs.

9.) Ground Breakerz 3 Pack Giant Trucks, $30 | This seems a little pricey at first glance, but these trucks are truly huge and it breaks down to $10 a truck, which I think is a steal. Parker is a truck fanatic, so I know these will be on his Christmas list.

10.) The Pioneer Woman Cookware Set, $59 | After receiving a set of her pots and pans for Mother's Day last year, I can't recommend her products enough! I have cast iron skillets, kitchen linens, utensils, and more from her collection and not a one have failed me yet! The price is unbeatable for the quality and this is a deal that won't last, so if you're in the market for a new set of pans and baking dishes (or just really need to nail that gift for you wife or mom) make sure you've got this in your shopping cart now!

11.) Disney Princess Dolls, $5 | Lucy is on a Barbie kick these days and she's never been shy of a Disney princess, so these knockoff Disney "Barbies" are a great little gift for her! Stock up for future birthday gifts for nieces and friends if you know you've got young girl birthdays coming up!

1.) Beauty Boxes and Gift Sets BOGO 50% Off | Gift sets are already a great value, so getting one half off is even better! Grab a few for gift exchanges or just stock up for your own personal stash. This includes men's gifts, so don't forget about your guy!

2.) Altec Lansing Jacket H2O 4 Bluetooth Speaker, $29.99 | These durable speakers are all the rage and great for any guy or gal on your list! I got a knockoff one for Preston last year but it already bit the dust, so this year's replacement will be the real deal! At this price, I can't afford not to get the name brand!

3.) Popsockets, $5 | Here's an easy stocking stuffer for teens and adults! Popsockets are great for phones or smaller tablets and if you're like me, you'll need a different one for each phone case, so grab them while they're hot!

4.) Amazon Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote, $24.99 | If you haven't jumped on the Fire Stick train yet (or you just need another one for that new TV you're scoring on Black Friday), this is a great price! We love the Alexa capability of our remote and the ease of having all of our apps in one spot. This would make a great and affordable gift for a whole family or even a housewarming present!

5.) Basic Tees and Sweaters for the Family, starting at $4 | I always love Target's basic tees and sweaters and Preston does, too! They're always a good price, but this is about half off, so stock up while you can! I can't say enough good things about the A New Day basic tees--SO comfy!

6.) Threshold Chenille and Sherpa Throws, $10 | Another great gift idea for a gift exchange! It's right at that budget with a little wiggle room for an add on--say, a bag of popcorn for a lazy movie night? Grab one for your own couch and stay cozy all winter long!

1.) Morphe 9 Piece Vegan Brush Set, 50% Off | I absolutely LOVE my Morphe brushes. I'm a long time elf brush girl and honestly find myself reaching for my Morphes the majority of the time! They're such an affordable option with amazing quality, so grab a whole set while they're even more affordable!

2.) OPI Nail Polish, $5 | One of my favorite nail polish brands and formulas (actually, my mom's sworn by them for years) is only $5! There is a plethora of shades to choose from, so stock up on stocking stuffers, teacher gifts, shower favors, and more.

3.) Ulta Beauty Collection Bath Sets, BOGO FREE | Yet another great gift exchange idea! Ulta always has amazing gift sets and this would even make a nice teacher gift! That buy one, get one price means you can grab one or two for yourself, too!

4.) Philosophy Microdelivery Exfoliating Facial Wash, $15 | This is a Black Friday exclusive size, but the price is well worth it! I love this gentle exfoliating wash and use it about twice a week in the shower. With winter skin coming at ya, this is a no brainer.

5.) Revlon One Step Hair Dryer & Styler, 50% Off | These highly coveted hair tools are all the rage right now, and at a price like this you can totally afford to try it out for yourself! Go ahead and hit snooze one more time, your one-step hair dryer's got this.

6.) Fragrance Favorites Gift Sets for Him and Her, $14.99 | I love trying new perfumes, but sometimes one whiff at the beauty counter isn't enough to tell if I really love it. With a variety of mini fragrance options to choose from, you'll have a month or two to test them all out and really decide on a new scent--plus fragrance gift sets often come with a voucher for a free or discounted full size so you can purchase your favorite scent from the collection!

7.) NYX Sugar Trip 24 Days of Beauty Advent Calendar, $29.99 | I've seen some great beauty advent calendars this year, but most of them are only 12 days for the same price as this 24 day one! Gift yourself all month long or give it to a friend. There's no such thing as a bad day with new makeup.

8.) Select Prestige Brand Mascara, $10 | Yep, we're talking full size, waterproof, high end mascara for less than half the price! Choose from brands like Tarte, Urban Decay, Smashbox, IT Cosmetics, and more! Now's the chance to try out those cult favorites at drugstore prices!

9.) Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kits, 40% Off | Get your winter glow on (or escape to the feeling of those dewy summer nights) with a gorgeous ABH Glow Kit at almost half off!

10.) boscia Luminizing Black Charocal Mask, $20 | This isn't that scary, painful charcoal mask that went viral for horrible reasons! I love this mask and how gentle it is to remove. It leaves my skin feeling baby soft and completely reset. I also love that it's mess-free! A great stocking stuffer or skincare gift for the beauty lover on your list!

Kohl's is never one of my first stops on Black Friday, but I do always come out with quite a few deals! Be warned: this is a store that will have heavy deals on clothing which can really suck you in and drain your Black Friday budget. Be sure to make a priority list before browsing!

1.) Hamilton Beach Quesadilla Maker, $9.99 (after mail-in rebate) | Yes, this deal requires a mail-in rebate to get the best discount, but at Kohl's, it's entirely worth the extra step because you'll rack up more Kohl's Cash with your purchases! Kohl's Cash is the best store reward because it's literally just spending money, no strings attached!

2.) Shark Navigator Vacuum, $99 | Like I mentioned above, this deal is about $10 pricier than the same product at Walmart or Target, but that Kohl's Cash totally makes it worth it! I absolutely LOVE my Shark Navigator and my mom, grandma, and brother all swear by theirs, too!

3.) All Fragrances 20% Off | Perfume is always a welcome gift! This is a great deal for those designer fragrances, plus the Kohl's Cash again!

4.) iHome 5x Vanity Mirror with Bluetooth, $49.99 | I'm hoping to have my new vanity set up by the new year, so this would be a welcome addition to my makeup routine! I love that it's also a speaker so I can listen to music while getting ready.

5.) Food Network Dutch Oven, $19.99 (after mail-in rebate) | I've been wanting a dutch oven for a long time but couldn't bear the price of the lofty name-brands on the market. This would be a great starter piece, especially since I know Food Network brand products are always decent quality.

6.) Victrola Portable Suitcase Record Player with Bluetooth, $39.99 | This would make such a cute gift for a college student or young adult in your life! It comes in tons of color options and I love the modern functionality with a little vintage flair! This would be the perfect way to help start someone's new record collection, or just give them the gift of portability!

Nope, no giant flatscreens or ridiculously overwhelming hauls going on over here, but I hope this little round up of deals gives you a good idea of what's really worth the chaos vs what's worth waiting a little longer for. I'm always one for saving money and spending as little as possible to get what I need, so you know these deals are the real thing! Tell me what's on your Black Friday wishlist below and let me know if I missed any amazing deals! Do you have a favorite retailer on Black Friday?

Striped Sweater Tunic

When you find a sweater that just encompasses fall, you buy it. Right? That's kind of what I did with this beauty from VICI Collection! It's marketed as a sweater dress but as you can see in these pictures, it's really more of a tunic. I was a little disappointed that I wouldn't be able to wear it as an actual dress, but the customer service team at VICI was incredibly kind and helpful and got it all straightened out for me! I'm happy to continue wearing it as a tunic and I think it looks so cute with leggings or jeans and OTK boots!

Sweater // VICI Collection (restocked in most sizes!)
Jeans // Target, old--similar here
Over-the-Knee Boots // Forever 21 (TTS)
Crossbody Bag // TJ Maxx, similar here
Lipstick // Bite Beauty in Glace
Nail Polish // OPI in Tiramisu for Two

I've been carrying this Chloe crossbody dupe around for several weeks and absolutely love it! Since this sweater has both navy and black in it, it really works with a lot of different accessories. I always love pairing black and tans together, too, so my new over-the-knee boots were a no-brainer. They're true to size, if not a little big, and under $40 so totally worth it if you're looking to try out this trend!

What colors do you reach for this time of year? I'm a rust orange, evergreen, and taupe kind of girl most of the time!

Leith Dress Dupe + Plaid Wrap Scarf

Okay, I know we've all seen the cult-favorite Leith dresses that are taking over wardrobes everywhere, but I actually found this dress at Forever 21 for about 1/3 of the cost! It's shockingly good quality, too--thick material with a lot of stretch and feels really well made! I'm super happy with it and tempted to go back for one of the other colors, too! I knew I had to have this dark green color for the holidays, though. I love it paired with neutrals like you see here, but it would also be darling with red, burgundy, or gold for holiday parties or Christmas photos!

I've shared this wrap scarf combo before but since ponchos are all the rage right now, I just had to wear it again (I mean, I wear all of my stuff more than once--what's the point otherwise!) and I really love how it looks with the deep forest green. It can be worn as a wrap/poncho thanks to the arm holes, but you can also just toss it on as a scarf like the second to last photo above! Also added these taupe over-the-knee boots from Forever 21 that are super comfortable. I've worn them about 10 times since I got them, a couple of times for the whole day with lots of walking, and can't get enough! Like most OTK boots, they do slide down when you walk, especially when worn without pants, but I'm going to look into some DIY boot bra options and get back to y'all on what works best!

Do you have a favorite high end wardrobe dupe? Are you loyal to the Leith dress or open to knockoffs?

Easy Parmesan Roasted Green Beans

Fun Fact: I'm the world's pickiest eater. The list of foods I do like is a lot shorter than the list of foods I despise, and like most toddlers, I struggle to get in all of my fruits and veggies. Thankfully, I've found quite a few recipes over the years that make getting my greens fun and delicious and today's recipe is one even my kiddos have praised! It's all thanks to the addition of savory and authentic Parmesan Reggiano® cheese.

Parmesan Reggiano® is not your average parmesan cheese. This stuff is the real deal, imported straight from Parma, Italy and it even has the pin-dots on the rind to prove it! I love the flavor of Parmesan Reggiano® and the tanginess it adds to plain green beans, but did you know that parmesan cheese is actually pretty good for you? It's naturally lactose free thanks to it's long aging process, making it easy to digest, as well as being packed with added protein and calcium! You can read more about the health benefits of parmesan cheese here. Isn't it great that I can make a healthy food like green beans taste even better with another healthy ingredient? Who knew?!

These Parmesan Roasted Green Beans are such a quick and easy side dish to go with you next meal. Even your kids will be asking for seconds! The fresh grated Parmesan Reggiano® gives it such an intense flavor that really takes this dish from average to outstanding, and also fun to make! Download the recipe below to try it for yourself:

If you're a fan of fettuccine alfredo, chicken parmesan, fondue, cheese platters, or any other parmesan-worthy dish, try Parmesan Reggiano! It will completely change how you look at typical pre-grated parmesan!
