5 Magazines That Are Worth The Subscription

While everyone else is wearing their blue light blocking glasses, surfing their Kindle for the latest reads, I still prefer the experience that comes with turning the page of a sleek new magazine, fresh out of the mail! Besides the fact that snail mail is oh so fun to receive, here are a few of my favorite magazines I've subscribed to and why I think they're worth the cost (spoiler: I found a way to score them WAY cheaper than buying each issue at the drugstore):

COUNTRY LIVING

I subscribed to Country Living a couple of years ago on a whim, thinking it might be too "country" or farm related, but that couldn't be further from the truth! A couple of my favorite recurring features are "What is it? What's it worth?" where readers submit unique and interesting heirlooms or thrift store finds and appraisers give a little info on what the item is and it's value and "Turn this scene into a room" where a beautiful landscape photo is the inspiration for a room makeover! I always find farmhouse and cottage decor inspiration in Country Living, but they also share a lot of unique road trip stops, household tips, pet care information, and recipes, all with a bit of vintage flair. This is probably my number one favorite magazine that I subscribe to and I will never not renew my subscription with them!

BETTER HOMES & GARDENS

A magazine that has stood the test of time for a good reason! The very first issue was released in 1922! Most of us have picked up a BHG magazine here or there, but I love getting a new issue every month! From home and craft DIYs, gardening tips and tricks, and even a little bit of beauty/fashion, I always learn something new and look forward to getting the next one in the mail! P.S. you can get a FREE 1-year subscription to Better Homes & Gardens when you purchase a household item from their Walmart line! I believe it's only included in products over a certain price range ($20-25 I believe, but don't quote me!). I got a free year when I purchased our first dinnerware set (it's held up great and I still love it!) and have been subscribing ever since!

SOUTHERN LIVING

Southern Living is the ultimate guide for any southern belle! It's full of classic, southern hospitality tips, delicious recipes, party hosting tips, travel guides to the best southern cities, and even some timeless fashion and beauty tips. I don't always find the information in Southern Living to be completely practical (not my go-to for usual weeknight meals for example), but it's more of an inspiration read for me so I enjoy receiving it every month.

THE PIONEER WOMAN MAGAZINE

I promise, my love for Ree Drummond isn't the only reason I love her magazine! She always shares the best little gift guides, gorgeous and interesting homes, and of course LOTS of easy, delicious recipes! Since issues come quarterly, you can always expect to see some great seasonal content, too.

GOOD HOUSEKEEPING

Last but not least, is Good Housekeeping! Everyone knows about the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval and I love their yearly awards issue, but they actually feature GH Seal products in every issue, every month! I love the thorough reviews on everything from household cleaners to lipstick. They also feature quite a bit of style and fashion content, which I appreciate after ditching true fashion magazines for good (too much agenda pushing and immoral content these days)!

Subscribing to magazines has always been a more cost-effective choice than buying individual issues at the stand, but I actually never spend full price on magazine subscriptions, ever! Two of my favorite sites to purchase discounted subscriptions are Groupon (referral link) and Discount Mags. Discount Mags has The Pioneer Woman Magazine for 20% off the regular price, a great deal for a relatively new and exclusive subscription, and most of the magazines on Groupon are only $4-5 a year! That's like buying just one issue at the store! I don't get to spend money on things like getting my nails done or hair colored regularly, but for only a few dollars a year I can easily treat myself without feeling guilty!

Do you subscribe to any magazines? Do you prefer paper copies or digital subscriptions? I'm paper all the way!

Heart Print Button Down, Two Ways

Since Valentine's Day is tomorrow and this silky heart print button down is less than $20 on clearance right now, I figured it was the perfect time to share a One Item, Two Ways post with y'all! The first way I thought to style this top was layered with my favorite navy sweater! I felt so preppy in this outfit and loved every second of it! The knotted mules were a fun addition and only $7 on clearance at my local store. I picked them up at the same time as the top and couldn't wait to pair them together.

This button down is supposed to be light blue with navy hearts but it looks white in person! Occasionally I can see the light blue but just barely. What do you think? I just love layering button downs under cardigans and sweaters but had to find a way to rock this one without the layers for spring! Keep scrolling to see the second look I put together:

Funny what a simple change in color scheme can do for an item! This top screamed preppy when paired with navy and red, but a few pops of PINK and you've gone from collegiate chic to flirty and feminine! Nothing goes better with hearts than bows, so my favorite pink flats made a reappearance. I don't always match my handbag with my shoes, but to break up the monotone look on top it seemed perfect.

I even swapped out my lipstick from red to a pretty fuchsia color to tie it all together. This look is perfect for Galentine's Day brunch or even the office with slacks or a pencil skirt! The silky material of this blouse is so chic and versatile; I can't wait to find more ways to style it for you!

I have a thing for ditsy prints and old school style, so I'm super glad to have snagged this sweet top in time for Valentine's Day! Which look is your favorite? Let me know in the comments!

Classic Valentine's Makeup Look: Drugstore ONLY!

I loooove a quick and easy makeup look, even for Valentine's Day! No falsies or overpriced high end products necessary here, just tried-and-true drugstore favorites that add up to an ultra glam, long-lasting look that's perfect for day or night!

Here's what I used!

This foundation is my all time favorite of all foundations I've ever used, even the few high end ones I've tried! It's not too matte, great coverage, and long lasting. My eyeshadow look is probably one of the easiest I've ever done and yet still works for date night! I used the light grey/brown shade from the Milani palette all over, with the Revlon shadow on the main part of my lid. Then I lightly smoked it all out with the medium dark shade of the Milani palette. To finish the smokey eye effect, I buffed out that medium dark shadow on my lower lash line which really ties everything together in a more natural way--at least as natural as you can get with a smokey eye!

As for the rest of the look, I simply did my regular makeup routine with a little more emphasis than normal on my contour and highlight to boost the glamorous feel. Normally, I'd rock this look with a bold red lip but this time I was feeling like a hot pink and I'm so glad I went with something different! I used the Pixi Beauty liquid lipstick I received in a PR package a while back and I really love it! It's not too drying and lasts a long time, but it's not entirely kiss-proof, so bear that in mind!

SHOP THE PRODUCTS I USED

The best thing about this makeup look--besides it being SO affordable!--is that it's completely neutral, so you can really go with any lip color you like! If you're looking to take things up a notch for night, just blend out a little more of that medium dark shade and add a touch of the black shadow (very pigmented!) into the outer corner/lower lash line to darken up the smokey effect. You'll have a sexy date night look ready in no time!

What are your Valentine's plans? I can't wait to spend the actual day with snuggles and a home-cooked meal, but Friday night we're hitting the town thanks to my sweet friend's offer to babysit! It's so nice to have just a couple hours to reconnect without the kids in tow!

Pearl Embellished Two-in-One Dress

I'll be honest, I'm not usually this dressed up for Valentine's Day. I'm more of a stay in and cook a great meal + Netflix & Chill kinda girl! BUT when I saw this dress, I just had to have it for Valentine's! I ordered mine from VICI Collection since I had some store credit there (here's the link for the dress there, still available in medium!) but Red Dress Boutique has it cheaper AND in two other colors! I'm wearing what their site calls "cream" and mine is a medium!

SHOP THE LOOK

The cute little bow is just so perfect for Valentine's Day or holiday parties, but it is removable! I think I'll take it off next time and wear my hair up with a big statement earring! Of course a red heel was a must for the season, but without the bow you could really rock any color shoe, from nude or black to hot pink or leopard print! The options are so fun with this shift and did I mention it has pockets?! Definitely my favorite "dressy"-dress to date!

Now the question is, where should my next date night be? I need to take this beauty out for another spin!
